Grant Description

The National Institute on Aging (NIA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has issued a forecasted Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the establishment of a National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC). This initiative falls under the cooperative agreement funding instrument and does not permit clinical trials. The NOFO is scheduled to be posted by August 15, 2025, with an estimated application due date of October 15, 2025. The project is expected to begin on July 15, 2026, with awards announced by the same date. The NACC is intended to serve three main roles: as a national data resource for Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers (ADRCs), as a facilitator of ongoing and future research related to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD), and as the central organizational hub for communication within and outside the ADRC program. This includes responsibilities such as managing annual meetings and steering committees. The initiative aims to consolidate data collection, enhance collaboration, and advance the coordination of AD/ADRD research efforts across the nation. While this is a forecasted opportunity and not currently open for applications, the early notice is intended to give researchers and institutions adequate time to prepare and form strategic collaborations. It is anticipated to utilize the U24 activity code, which denotes resource-related research projects that support infrastructure and research resources. Eligibility for this funding includes a wide array of applicants such as state governments, local education agencies, institutions of higher education (both public and private), tribal governments and organizations, nonprofits with IRS 501(c)(3) status, and certain for-profit entities, excluding small businesses. No cost-sharing or matching is required for this grant. The NOFO is listed under Assistance Listing 93.866 for Aging Research. Though the total funding amount, as well as minimum and maximum award ceilings, are not yet specified, the program is expected to be competitive and impactful within the field of health and aging research. For further inquiries, interested applicants can contact Cerise Elliott, Ph.D., at the National Institute on Aging, Division of Neuroscience.
