Grant Description

The WeHo Artist Grant, administered by the City of West Hollywood, is designed to support the long-term artistic development of individual artists by offering financial assistance to help them realize their creative visions. The program is an initiative of the City's Arts Division and the Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission, which are dedicated to sustaining the cultural vibrancy of West Hollywood. The grant aims to help artists overcome practical challenges related to their practice, retain artists within the city, and enrich the broader community’s cultural landscape. The total funding available for this grant cycle is $30,000, with each selected artist receiving an award of $6,000. The grant supports projects that are executed during the calendar year 2026. Artists may use the funds to fulfill any aspect of their proposed project, and must culminate their work by producing a 3-to-5-minute film summarizing the project and its community impact. Additionally, awardees are required to give a public presentation of their project on November 5, 2026, at City Hall. Funded projects must be executed within West Hollywood or an immediately adjacent area and should include outreach that targets West Hollywood residents. To be eligible, applicants must reside within the legal limits of the City of West Hollywood, be registered in the City’s Artist Registry, and have not previously received the WeHo Artist Grant. Additional eligibility restrictions include disqualification of projects that are fundraisers, capital campaigns, murals, or religious-based in nature. Applicants must also submit two previous work samples (excluding media clips), a detailed timeline and budget, and may not be receiving concurrent funding from another City division for the same project. City officials and their immediate family members are also ineligible to apply. The application process includes an initial eligibility screening, followed by peer panel review. Applications are judged based on vision and clarity (10 points), impact on both the artist’s professional growth and the community (10 points), quality of prior work (10 points), and the applicant's resume (10 points). Scores from the peer panel are reviewed by the Performing Arts and Cultural Affairs Subcommittee, which then makes funding recommendations to the Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission and ultimately the City Council. Applicants must submit their applications online by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Two virtual informational workshops are scheduled: one on May 21, 2025, covering the program overview, and a second on May 28, 2025, focusing on budget preparation. Questions must be submitted by May 20, 2025. Selected grantees will be notified in October 2025, attend an orientation on November 13, 2025, and may begin receiving funds as early as January 2026, contingent upon compliance with contracting requirements, including insurance.
