Grant Description

The Community Firewise Grants aim to meet the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy goals for Wildfire Risk Reduction (WRR). The grant provides cost-share incentives to municipalities, communities, and other qualifying organizations to obtain Firewise Community/USA designation, implement hazard mitigation activities, train community Firewise liaisons, and conduct outreach and awareness activities in the community. Eligible applicants include NJ counties, municipalities, and homeowner associations located in documented wildfire risk areas. Funding is limited to half of the project cost, up to $5,000 per Firewise community. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and notification of award occurs within one month of the end of the application period or upon acceptance of a qualified proposal. Training provided in-house on a case-by-case basis and through Firewise USA and NFPA. Applications are accepted via NJ Department of Environmental Protection, System for Administering Grants Electronically (NJDEP SAGE).
