Racial Equity Community Building Grant
This funding opportunity provides financial support to grassroots nonprofit organizations in Douglas County, Kansas, that are led by BIPOC individuals and focused on promoting equity and community empowerment for BIPOC communities.
The 2025 Racial Equity Community Building Grant is a funding opportunity managed by the United Way of Kaw Valley. Its purpose is to support grassroots and community nonprofit organizations in Douglas County, Kansas, working to increase equity and opportunities for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities. The grant is rooted in the vision of building a just, equitable, and inclusive society and is focused on fostering leadership, community building, and direct supports for historically marginalized groups. Grant awards are available in amounts up to $5,000. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations or collaborative efforts based in Douglas County, KS. Priority is given to organizations led by BIPOC individuals with missions and goals centered on equity and community empowerment. Applicants must serve a population that is at least 75% BIPOC, and organizations with annual budgets over $500,000 or lacking BIPOC leadership (less than 25% on executive teams or boards) are not eligible. Government programs, foundations, educational institutions, and businesses are also excluded from eligibility. The grant supports activities in three main categories: Direct Supports (e.g., food distribution, basic needs), Advocacy (e.g., policy education, campaign development), and Community Building (e.g., public events, leadership programs). Projects should specifically address intersections of racism and poverty, and applicants are encouraged to highlight how their initiatives create equitable opportunities for BIPOC residents. Prohibited activities include capital campaigns, research, and direct services that require ongoing participation or citizenship verification. Applications are due by Friday, April 4, 2025, at 12:00 PM CST. Submissions can be made via email, in person, or by mail.
