Tourism Attraction Grant Program

The Tourism Attraction Grant Program (TAP), administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), provides grants ranging from $15,000 to $200,000 to support the development or improvement of tourism attractions across Illinois. With a total funding pool of $1,708,809, the program aims to enhance the economic impact of tourism by increasing visitation and promoting long-term growth. Applications must be submitted by December 20, 2024, at 5:00 PM CST. Eligible applicants include for-profit businesses, nonprofits, local promotion groups, municipalities, and counties. Projects must meet a cost-sharing requirement: nonprofits and government entities must provide a 50% match, while for-profit businesses must contribute a 75% match. Matching funds may include in-kind contributions, such as donated labor or materials, for nonprofit and government applicants, but not for for-profits. Funding can be used for capital projects like land acquisition, construction, and renovations, as well as equipment purchases and interpretive programs. Ineligible expenses include feasibility studies, marketing, payroll, and administrative costs. Projects must demonstrate a positive economic impact, such as increased tourism revenue and local tax generation. Applications will be evaluated on a 100-point scale based on need, capacity, and quality. Successful applicants will receive awards beginning February 1, 2025, with a performance period through December 31, 2025.
