Grant Description

Since 1980, the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program (VCGP) has awarded over $1.1 billion to establish, expand, and improve veterans' cemeteries across the U.S., its territories, and tribal lands. These grants support burial sites exclusively for veterans and eligible family members, helping to provide burial options for those previously unserved. In 2025, two new state cemeteries will open, with another planned for December 2025. Grants may only be used for cemeteries owned and operated by state, territorial, or tribal governments. The Department of Veterans Affairs provides up to 100% of development costs but does not fund land acquisition. All cemeteries must adhere to U.S. standards, including the Build America, Buy America Act requirements. This grant is soliciting FY25 pre-applications for projects to be included in the FY26 priority list. The cemeteries must meet specific VA standards and be operated solely by the grant recipient. The program also provides a "plot allowance" for eligible veterans' burial expenses.
