Grant Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), through the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), intends to release a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to support the development of a Data and Coordinating Center (DACC) as part of the Impact of Genomic Variation on Function (IGVF) Consortium. This funding initiative aims to foster deeper understanding of genomic variations and their functional impacts. The NOFO is expected to be published in 2025, allowing adequate preparation time for applicants to establish partnerships and create impactful proposals. The DACC will serve as the central hub for IGVF, tasked with developing and maintaining a widely accessible set of resources. This includes a public-facing data portal and a comprehensive catalog of both measured and predicted variant impacts. It will also engage the research community for feedback on catalog design and work to integrate efforts across various programs and consortia, thereby expanding the scientific reach and utility of the IGVF initiative. This opportunity will utilize the U24 activity code, which denotes a cooperative agreement model of funding, emphasizing close collaboration between the funding agency and the award recipient. The DACC will support IGVF by organizing meetings, facilitating consortium communications, and enhancing the usability and reach of collected data, ensuring that the broader scientific community can benefit from the consortium’s findings. The total anticipated funding for this opportunity is $1,200,000, with only one award expected. There is no cost-sharing or matching requirement. The estimated application due date is July 15, 2025, with the anticipated project start date set for April 1, 2026. Eligible applicants include a broad range of entities, such as state and local governments, tribal governments and organizations, higher education institutions (both public and private), nonprofits, and small or for-profit businesses. This inclusive eligibility indicates a commitment to encouraging a diverse pool of applicants capable of contributing to the consortium’s goals. For more information, applicants are advised to contact Dr. Stephanie A. Morris at the NHGRI. She can be reached via email at morriss2@mail.nih.gov or by phone at 301-435-5738. This forecasted grant notice provides an early opportunity for potential applicants to prepare, though final details will be confirmed upon official NOFO publication.
