The Support West Program, initiated by the Chicago Blackhawks Foundation, is dedicated to enhancing economic vitality in Chicago’s West Side neighborhoods. This initiative provides minority-owned small businesses with both financial and strategic support, including $5,000 grants and marketing assistance. The program aims to strengthen the economic corridors of these communities, creating jobs, safe spaces, and sustainable growth opportunities. The third cycle of the program is now open for applications from November 1 to December 13, 2024, with grantees being notified by January 6, 2025, and funds distributed by the end of January. To qualify, businesses must meet several eligibility requirements. They must be located in one of the following West Side neighborhoods: Austin, Belmont Cragin, East Garfield Park, Hermosa, Humboldt Park, Lower West Side, Near West Side, North Lawndale, Pilsen, South Lawndale, West Garfield Park, or West Town. Eligible businesses must operate in the Food and Beverage, Art/Entertainment, or Health & Wellness sectors, have no more than 10 employees, and generate less than $250,000 in annual revenue. Additionally, businesses must be minority-owned and operated, have been in operation for at least one year, and commit to participating in professional development and mentorship programming between February and September 2025. The Support West Program goes beyond financial assistance, offering mentorship and marketing opportunities to help business owners achieve long-term success. Previous grantees, such as Dope Drip Cafe, El Churro Shop, and Twisted Eggroll, exemplify the program’s impact on small businesses, enabling them to grow while contributing to the community's economic development. Business owners interested in this opportunity should apply through the program's online portal before the deadline.
