Grant Description

The Cashiers Community Fund, administered by The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, supports nonprofit and public service projects that improve the quality of life in Cashiers, North Carolina. Established with the goal of enhancing local community well-being, this fund distributes annual grants to projects demonstrating clear community benefits. Applicants are encouraged to propose initiatives that align with the fund's mission to enrich life in the Cashiers area. Grants range from $2,500 to $12,500 and may be used for a wide range of charitable purposes including programmatic needs, capital campaigns, and general operating expenses. The fund prioritizes applications demonstrating the greatest benefit to the community. Projects benefiting a third-party organization, such as public school programs run by nonprofits, must include a letter of endorsement from the benefiting institution. Eligible applicants include organizations that are tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3), as well as governmental, educational, and religious entities operating within or serving the Cashiers area. Only one application per organization is permitted per year. Past grantees must have submitted all required End of Grant Reports for prior awards to be considered for new funding. The grant application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on the first Friday in July. Awards are announced and funds disbursed by the end of August. Most awarded funds should be used within 10 months. Applications must be submitted online and are evaluated by a fund advisory committee based on clarity, compliance with eligibility, organizational capacity, and anticipated community impact. Notifications and communications occur via email. Prospective applicants may contact Tara Scholtz, Senior Program Officer, for assistance with proposal development and eligibility clarification. Diane Crisp, Senior Grants Manager, provides technical support with the online application system. CFWNC issues payments via electronic funds transfer, requiring applicants to provide current banking details. Grantees are required to submit an online report detailing use of funds and program outcomes. The report deadlines are included in the award letter and managed through CFWNC’s grant system. Additional reports or site visits may be requested. The advisory committee reserves the right to amend or make exceptions to the guidelines in coordination with CFWNC staff.
