Grant Description

The Keep A Breast (KAB) Give Back Grant (GBG) program supports U.S.-based women of color who are breast cancer patients or survivors. This initiative addresses the systemic challenges and inequalities women of color face in accessing adequate breast cancer care. Grants are unrestricted, allowing recipients to use the funds as they see fit to meet their unique needs. Women of color often face barriers such as healthcare coverage limitations, higher mortality rates despite lower diagnosis rates compared to White women, and inadequate care due to systemic biases. Additional disparities, such as access to nutrient-dense food and health education, further exacerbate these challenges, increasing the risk of complications like diabetes, heart disease, and obesity, which can complicate breast cancer care. The KAB Give Back Grant was established in 2020 with funds raised through a Breast Cast Exhibition in Nashville, Tennessee. Each grant is $500, designed to empower recipients to address their personal needs without restrictions. Grants have been used for a variety of purposes, reflecting the diverse and individual challenges recipients face. Any woman of color who is a breast cancer patient or survivor living in the U.S. is eligible to apply. Previous applicants and recipients are welcome to reapply in subsequent cycles. Grant awards are dependent on available funding, ensuring ongoing support to as many women as possible. The Cycle 5 application period is now open, with applications accepted until December 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PST. Applications are submitted through the program’s online platform. As an unrestricted grant, funds may be used at the recipient's discretion, supporting the program’s mission to reduce inequities in breast cancer care for women of color. For additional questions or to apply, visit the program website. This grant provides vital support to women navigating the challenges of breast cancer while addressing systemic disparities in the healthcare system.
