Engaging Next-Gen Action Youth in Tobacco Control
This funding opportunity provides financial support to organizations that empower youth to lead tobacco control initiatives and reduce tobacco use among their peers in the District of Columbia.
The District of Columbia Department of Health (DC Health), through its Community Health Administration (CHA), is offering funding for the "Engaging Next Gen Youth in Tobacco Control" program. DC Health is responsible for promoting and protecting public health in the District of Columbia. The Community Health Administration works specifically to prevent leading causes of death, protect maternal and child health, and eliminate health disparities, with the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Bureau focusing on building healthy communities through safe behaviors, improved access to care, and disease management. The purpose of this funding opportunity is to prevent tobacco use among youth through peer-led tobacco control programs. The grant supports organizations that will host, sponsor, and facilitate NextGen Action teams that empower youth as leaders and advocates to change the social acceptance of tobacco use and reduce its prevalence. Through sub-grants, a hub organization will support community-based organizations (CBOs) in establishing and guiding these teams. Activities include leadership and advocacy training, creating awareness campaigns, and promoting tobacco cessation resources like the EX Program. This opportunity provides up to $300,000 in funding for one award in the first budget period. The performance period will run from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026, with the possibility of up to four additional 12-month periods through September 2030, contingent on funding availability and grantee performance. Eligible applicants include nonprofit and for-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, faith-based organizations, and healthcare systems. Applicants must have a Tax ID number, be registered in the federal System for Award Management (SAM) with an active UEI number, and registered in DC Healthโs Enterprise Grants Management System (EGMS). Applications must be submitted via EGMS by 3:00 PM on July 15, 2025. A pre-application meeting is recommended and information is available at the Office of Grants Management Eventbrite page. Questions must be submitted in writing by July 8, 2025. Applications must include various eligibility documents, a detailed project narrative, budget table and justification, work plan, evaluation plan, and at least two letters of support from community partners. Proposals will be evaluated on four criteria: Need (10 points), Implementation (50 points), Evaluative Measures (20 points), and Capacity (20 points). Applicants must demonstrate understanding of tobacco use among youth, effective implementation strategies for engaging youth through NextGen Action teams, robust monitoring and evaluation methods, and organizational capacity to manage and support the project.
