The Northern New York Community Foundation offers the Lewis County Historic Preservation Fund to celebrate and preserve the rich historical heritage of Lewis County, New York. The Foundation recognizes that historic preservation holds significant value by fostering community identity, enhancing economic and environmental outcomes, and improving quality of life. Through this fund, the Foundation supports projects that help residents connect with their heritage and maintain the character of their communities. Funding is available to support historic preservation and restoration projects focused on places of legitimate historical significance and community landmarks. Only exterior preservation or restoration of existing structures is eligible. The property must be wholly owned by the applicant and must remain easily accessible and enjoyable to the public. All funding must be used for future expenses, as reimbursement for prior expenses is not permitted. A total of $100,000 is available for this application cycle. Grants may be awarded in full or in part depending on project priority and available funds. The Foundation encourages applicants to contact them prior to submission to discuss the amount requested.
