Grant Description

The Good Neighbor Fund was launched in 2024 by the PPL Foundation in response to increasing financial burdens faced by families in meeting basic residential energy costs. Administered through the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation (LVCF), this program provides financial grants to nonprofit organizations that operate existing utility assistance programs in eastern and central Pennsylvania. The initiative is specifically focused on households within PPL Electric’s 29-county service area, prioritizing those experiencing hardship in paying for energy services. The primary objective of the grant is to empower local nonprofits to support households that cannot afford energy bills, such as electric, oil, fuel, and wood pellets. Nonprofits selected for funding must have a proven utility assistance program already in place. Grants awarded through this program must directly support home energy costs and ensure that recipients are families with incomes below 300% of the federal poverty level. Additionally, the assistance provided through this program is capped at $1,000 per household. Each nonprofit award ranges from $10,000 to $30,000, with 15% of the awarded amount available as an administrative fee. This fee is intended to offset program-related costs including staffing, postage, and other direct expenses associated with grant disbursement. Grantees are required to use the funds within six months of receipt and submit a final report detailing how the funds were used. Eligibility is limited to nonprofit organizations that operate within the designated counties in PPL Electric’s territory and that already provide utility assistance. Applicants must apply via LVCF’s Foundant Grants Portal and complete an Organizational Profile Form within the portal before submitting a full application. The application process includes an opportunity to preview the Organizational Profile Form to ensure all necessary details are accurately provided. For the 2025-2026 cycle (Cycle Two), applications opened on May 19, 2025, and will close on June 23, 2025, at 11:59 PM. Notifications regarding the award will be made during the week of July 21, 2025, with funds disbursed in late July or early August. Final reports for this cycle are due in November 2025. For Cycle One, the final report submission deadline is June 9, 2025. For any inquiries related to the grant or the application process, Megan Briggs is the point of contact and can be reached at [email protected]. The foundation’s physical address is 840 West Hamilton Street, Suite 310, Allentown, PA 18101-2422, and the general phone number is 610-351-5353.
