Betty Scalice Foundation Music Grant 2025
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations and schools in San Diego County to enhance community access to music education and appreciation through various programs and performances, with a focus on benefiting North County residents.
The Coastal Community Foundation, in partnership with the San Diego Foundation, is offering the Betty Scalice Foundation Music Grant (2025) to support nonprofit and school-based music programs in San Diego County, with a preference for projects serving North County San Diego. This grant provides funding ranging from $2,000 to $8,000, and there are two separate application cycles for the year 2025. The primary objective of this grant is to promote access to music education and appreciation for the community, particularly through concerts, youth performances, and in-school music programs. The grant focuses on supporting community concerts, youth musical performances, low-cost classroom musical instruments, classroom-based music programs, choral music education, and other music appreciation activities. However, the grant does not cover activities such as chamber music, musician training, instrumental lessons, school band or choral equipment, capital equipment, uniforms, travel, or online performances. The emphasis is on ensuring broad community access to musical experiences rather than funding specialized or professional training programs. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) public charities, schools, or government agencies. Organizations that are fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) organization are also eligible, but they must demonstrate a clear cooperative relationship with their fiscal sponsor. However, supporting organizations and private, non-operating foundations are not eligible to apply. Applicants must serve the San Diego County area, and priority is given to programs that benefit North County San Diego residents. The application process is conducted online via Foundant, and applicants must create an account before submitting their proposals. Required documents include a program description, program budget, organizational mission statement, annual budget, and the organization’s most recent IRS Form 990. If a fiscal sponsor is involved, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or agreement letter must be uploaded. Successful applicants will be required to submit a final report detailing program outcomes, populations served, and photographic documentation of the program’s impact. There are two application cycles for the 2025 funding year: For Summer/Fall Programs: Applications open on February 3, 2025, and close on February 28, 2025. Awards will be announced by April 2025. For Winter/Spring Programs: Applications open on July 21, 2025, and close on August 22, 2025. Awards will be announced by September 2025. The grant does not specify a rolling application process and does not indicate whether it is recurring. Applicants must apply for each cycle separately. For any questions related to program eligibility or technical aspects of the application, applicants can contact Eve Childs at echilds@sdfoundation.org.
