Orange County Community Crime Prevention Awards
This program provides funding to nonprofit organizations and community groups in Orange County for projects that promote neighborhood safety, crime prevention, and drug abuse education.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) is accepting applications for the 2024 Community Crime Prevention Award Program, now in its fifth year. This initiative provides monetary awards ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 to support community projects that focus on neighborhood safety, crime prevention, and drug abuse education and prevention. The program seeks to empower nonprofit organizations, neighborhood groups, and community associations to create or expand programs that align with the Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to fostering safer communities. Applications are open from November 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, at 5:00 PM. A total of $250,000 will be distributed through the program, funded by the Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Trust Fund, which utilizes seized contraband assets. Organizations can request up to $10,000 per proposal, with the final award decisions made solely by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Matching funds are not required. The program encourages applications for new projects, ongoing initiatives, or regularly held events that meet eligibility criteria and benefit the residents of Orange County. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, community groups, and associations serving Orange County residents. Preference will be given to established organizations working in unincorporated areas of the county. Projects must address one or more of the program’s focus areas and demonstrate a clear community benefit. Applicants must submit a detailed proposal that includes a description of the program, an itemized list of intended purchases, and a plan for implementing the project. Letters of recommendation from community members, faith leaders, neighborhood associations, or local businesses are encouraged to strengthen applications. Applications will be evaluated based on their completeness, clarity, and alignment with program goals. Proposed projects must be well-planned, demonstrate readiness for implementation, and provide clear methods for ensuring funds are used appropriately. Projects that are the responsibility of homeowners’ associations, require off-duty law enforcement, or involve private security enhancements (e.g., fences, cameras) are ineligible for funding. The selection process involves a review by an internal Funding Approval Committee, followed by final award decisions from Sheriff John Mina. All awards must be ratified by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners before funds are released. Interested organizations must submit their applications by the December 31, 2024, deadline to be considered. Late applications will not be accepted. This program represents a valuable opportunity for community organizations to receive funding for initiatives that enhance safety and reduce crime in Orange County. Eligible groups are encouraged to apply and contribute to building stronger, safer communities.
