Fields Pond Foundation Grant Program
This grant provides financial support to community-based nature and land conservation organizations in New England and upper New York State to advance impactful conservation projects that benefit the environment and local communities.
The Fields Pond Foundation is dedicated to assisting community-based nature and land conservation organizations. Its mission is to support conservation efforts that yield tangible benefits for the environment and local communities. The foundation provides financial resources to help organizations advance significant conservation projects while encouraging collaborative efforts and efficient use of funds. The foundation primarily funds organizations operating within New England and upper New York State. Eligible applicants must hold 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and must not be classified as private foundations under Section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. While the foundation is inclusive, certain limitations apply. It typically does not fund deficits, routine operating budgets, or general appeals, nor does it support efforts commonly funded through public subscription, governmental responsibility, or sectarian religious activities. Grants to individuals for personal needs, welfare, travel, or research are also excluded. Grants awarded by the Fields Pond Foundation generally range from five hundred to twenty-five thousand dollars, with most awards between two thousand and fifteen thousand dollars. The foundation seeks to maximize the impact of its resources through challenge grants, conditional grants, matching grants, and collaborative initiatives with other donors. Joint applications from multiple organizations working on a single project are welcomed. Projects that align with the foundation’s significant objectives and address unmet needs are prioritized. Applicants are encouraged to contact the foundation informally before preparing a formal application. A one-page proposal outline is recommended for unique or complex projects and is intended to save applicants time and resources. If the concept is promising, a full proposal will be requested. The foundation also accepts proposals prepared using the Common Grant Application of Philanthropy Massachusetts, with some modifications to required sections and documents. Full proposals should include detailed information about the applicant organization, including its history, mission, key staff, and financial documents. The proposal content must clearly describe the project’s goals, objectives, and anticipated benefits, demonstrate alignment with the foundation’s objectives, provide evidence of addressing an important need, and outline the project’s budget and funding sources. Applicants should also include maps for projects involving land protection or access improvements and provide an evaluation plan. Proposals may be submitted by email at any time, as the foundation’s Directors meet regularly throughout the year. Complete proposals are reviewed to ensure they meet the foundation’s guidelines and interests. Applicants will be notified of the Directors’ decision shortly after these meetings. For inquiries or additional information, applicants can contact the foundation via email at info@fieldspond.org or by phone at 781.899.9990.
