As a Partner Fund of the Initiative Foundation, the Black Oak Getty Community Foundation benefits from professional management and oversight, which ensures that contributions are used effectively to benefit the community both now and in the future. The Foundation invites grant applications from tax-exempt nonprofit organizations with projects expected to have a meaningful impact in areas including education support and youth development, basic needs such as housing and food, civic engagement and community development, and environmental conservation. Preference is given to innovative programs within these areas, particularly those that encourage volunteerism, foster community engagement, or promote environmental awareness and sustainability. Recent grants awarded in 2023 include funding for a youth snowmobile and ATV education center, basic needs support for Terebinth Refuge, equipment for Holy Family School, and an archery program at Sauk Centre School District, among others. Local volunteers serve on the advisory team, contributing their insights to align funding with community needs. Advisory members, including Chair Janet Lahr, Treasurer Chad Quelle, and Secretary Jody Schirmers, work in collaboration with the Initiative Foundation to ensure grants are allocated effectively. Organizations interested in applying or individuals wishing to support the Foundation’s mission can connect with the Foundation through donation opportunities or by joining the advisory team.
