Grant Description

The Bill Rowles Youth Foundation Fund, managed by the Greater Toledo Community Foundation, provides grants to nonprofit organizations in northwest Ohio that enhance the lives of young people under the age of 21. Priority is given to programs serving youth who have had contact with the juvenile justice system, experienced school suspension or expulsion, or faced other behavioral challenges. Grants may be used for operating expenses or to establish new programs, with a preference for organizations in Wood County. Grants are capped at $3,000, and funds should not be relied on as an annual source of support. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving northwest Ohio residents. Governmental organizations and agencies are not eligible. The grant process requires a narrative proposal detailing the project’s purpose, implementation plan, evaluation criteria, sustainability strategies, and a project budget. Proposals must clearly outline goals, the population served, and the anticipated impact of the program. The application deadline is January 31 each year, with submissions required through the foundation’s online portal. Applicants must include attachments such as the organization’s IRS tax-exemption letter, a list of board members, a board-approved operating budget, financial statements from the past 18 months (audited or unaudited), and a background summary of the organization. Proposals not adhering to submission requirements or submitted by fax, email, or mail will not be reviewed. Applications are reviewed by the foundation’s staff and Board of Trustees, with funding decisions communicated in late March. Expenses incurred before funding approval cannot be reimbursed. Programs should focus on addressing behavioral challenges and improving outcomes for youth, with an emphasis on long-term impact and sustainability. For assistance or additional information, applicants may contact Artisha Lawson, Program Officer at the Greater Toledo Community Foundation. Applications should demonstrate thoughtful planning, clear objectives, and alignment with the fund’s mission to support youth facing significant challenges.
