The Illinois Grocery Initiative New Stores in Food Deserts program, authorized by Public Act 103-0561, is intended to address the challenge of food deserts. Food deserts are census tracts meeting specific criteria related to poverty standards, population density, and limited food accessibility. This program aims to combat food insecurity by offering competitive grants to support the establishment of new grocery stores in these areas by reimbursing successful applicants for eligible capital and non-capital costs.

The FY 2024 Team Nutrition Training Grants for Meal Pattern Modernization and Retention and Mentorship Opportunities will help State agencies build capacity for future implementation of the Final Rule, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and address residual COVID-19 effects on staff retention in school meal programs. During school years (SY) 2020-2021, 2021-2022, and 2022-2023, the COVID-19 pandemic significantly exacerbated food insecurity, diet-related diseases, and health disparities. It also affected school meal service across the country. Schools experienced school foodservice labor shortages and staff turnover as well as supply chain disruptions. The COVID-19 public health emergency underscored the need to safeguard and continue to support healthy school environments; provide technical assistance, coaching, and mentoring to School Nutrition Professionals; and to capture and share the institutional knowledge of School Nutrition Professionals. The FY 2024 Team Nutrition Training Grant activities will allow State agencies to provide technical assistance to School Nutrition Professionals and help ensure they have the skills and knowledge to prepare and serve nutritious meals. The grant will also help School Nutrition Professionals pilot and implement coaching and mentoring programs and resources, and implement ways to capture and share the institutional, job specific knowledge of school nutrition directors, managers, and front-line staff. Ultimately, this will assist SFAs to: identify and apply ways to further improve the nutritional quality of school meals; meet meal pattern requirements and weekly dietary specifications for school meals; implement scratch cooking techniques; improve forecasting, procurement, and menu planning for school meals, and; build a knowledgeable and skilled labor force. The purpose of the Substance Use Prevention Education in the WIC Program project grant is to develop trainings and resources to assist State and local agency WIC staff when addressing substance use prevention and referrals with WIC participants. This opportunity provides funding to develop and deliver a train-the-trainer model substance (i.e., drug and alcohol) use education program for WIC State agencies to deliver to WIC staff, revise the WIC Substance Use Prevention Guide, develop a custom online training course for WIC staff, develop a minimum of two participant education materials, and develop and present outcomes of these four activities to FNS staff.

Grant aims to support unique concepts and entertainment proposals from residents in Southwest Riverside County by removing market and construction barriers. It aligns with Menifee’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), addresses community and demographic demands, and promotes tourism opportunities in the city. Eligible expenses include start-up costs such as grease trap installation, kitchen equipment, and other approved startup expenses. Applicants are required to submit a pre-application detailing proposed expenses and providing concept board or visual renderings. The Glendale Storefront Art Program in California is seeking artists to participate in creating professional-quality art installations in vacant storefronts. The program aims to support public art, beautify the city, and celebrate the surrounding community through these installations. The goal is to expand the program throughout the city in partnership with property owners, realtors, and developers.

FDA announces the availability of fiscal year (FY) 2024 funds to support one or more projects to 1) collect antimicrobial use data from diverse animal sectors, including domestic livestock, poultry, companion animals (dogs, cats, and horses), and minor species (e.g., fish, sheep, goats, etc.) and 2) contribute to the development of data collection frameworks, including providing data and expertise as resources and a public-private partnership frameworks are established.This grant will support the continued advancement of FDA's initiatives to support antimicrobial stewardship in veterinary settings.
