This funding opportunity is designed to support American Indian and Alaska Native communities in developing and implementing initiatives that improve the lives of individuals at risk of or living with dementia through mini-grants, training, and collaborative efforts.

This funding opportunity provides $350,000 annually to organizations that will establish a collaboration office to improve early childhood education and support services for American Indian and Alaska Native children and families.

This grant provides funding to organizations that aim to improve services and support for older adults in American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian communities by conducting research, gathering information, and offering training and technical assistance.

The U.S. Geological Survey is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner to assist in developing datasets for predictive relationships between florescence of dissolved organic matter (FDOM) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in freshwater types of SE Alaska. Surface water from large rivers is currently being collected and characterized, but from a limited variety of water types. Assistance in developing continuous monitoring surrogates and documenting the relationship between surrogates and measured water quality parameters, such as FDOM and dissolved carbon and organic matter, is sought. These studies will augment and inform current USGS efforts at characterizing dissolved carbon in glacially dominated large rivers and help evaluate USGS standard methods to new water types. It will also foster a collective understanding of the DOC concentrations and characteristics of SE Alaska streams and inform their sensitivity to pollutants.

Management, Species, Harbor Porpoise, (RAM#FXSBA53247215-A), Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska - The objectives of this requirement are to (1) determine Harbor Porpoise presence in Knik Arm during the winter and (2) determine the presence of Harbor Porpoise in Knik Arm and the timing and extent of upstream movement of Harbor Porpoise in the Eagle River during summer and fall. Tanana Flats Training Area All Season Road and Gravel Production, Fort Wainwright, Alaska SOW 21-108. The objectives of this scope of work are to implement the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan to provide healthy and resilient environments that are sustainable, high-quality settings for military training, to protect and enhance biological diversity and ecological health on all Department of Defense (DoD) lands, and to ensure compliance with all environmental laws and regulations. The Violence Against Women Act of 2013 first authorized this program as an amendment to the Indian Civil Rights Act of 1968, and it was further amended by the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022 (VAWA 2022) to include Alaska Tribes (codified as amended at 25 U.S.C. 1304(h)(2)). The OVW Special Tribal Criminal Jurisdiction Grant Program (Tribal Jurisdiction Program) (Assistance Listing # 16.025) supports tribes in their efforts to exercise special Tribal criminal jurisdiction (STCJ) over non-Indians who commit covered crimes within the Tribes jurisdictional boundaries and provides technical assistance for planning and implementing changes in their criminal justice systems necessary to exercise the jurisdiction. Covered crimes are: assault of Tribal justice personnel; child violence; dating violence; domestic violence; obstruction of justice; sexual violence; sex trafficking; stalking; and violation of a protection order. The program supports tribes in preparing to exercise or exercising the jurisdiction to ensure that victims find safety and justice and that non-Indians who commit covered crimes within their communities are held accountable.

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support research that includes education, outreach, and clinical access to improve the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers among American Indians and Alaska Natives, particularly those living in rural communities.

The purpose of this program is to support communities to directly increase the diagnoses, treatment, and prevention of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), and syphilis. Successful applicants will work toward a reduction of new HIV infections and relevant co-morbidities, specifically syphilis and HCV infections; improve HIV/HCV/syphilis-related health outcomes; and reduce HIV/HCV/syphilis-related health disparities among American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people. In four separate but related parts, this initiative aims to implement effective and innovative strategies, interventions, approaches, and services to reduce new HIV/HCV/syphilis infections among AI/AN communities in the U.S. This initiatives overarching goals are to: (1) Reduce new HIV, HCV, and syphilis infections to less than 3,000 per year by 2030; and (2) achieve a 90 percent reduction in new HCV infections and a 65 percent reduction in mortality, compared to a 2015 baseline.

Fort Wainwright Alaska and Donnelly Training Area Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance Support, Fort Wainwright, Alaska - The primary objective of this requirement is to implement the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP) to provide healthy and resilient environments that are sustainable, high-quality settings for military training and to protect and enhance biological diversity and ecological health on all Department of Defense (DoD) lands, and to ensure compliance with all environmental laws and regulations. Donnelly Training Area, Black Rapids Training Area, and Yukon Training Area Trail and Streambank Improvements, US Army Garrison-Alaska (USAG-AK), Fort Wainwright, Alaska - The primary objectives of this requirement are to assist the USAG-AK with the optimal management of training lands, to minimize restrictions to the military mission due to natural resource related constraints, to protect and enhance ecological health on all USAG-AK lands, and to ensure compliance with all environmental laws and regulations. The IIJA/IRA Bureau of Land Management Alaska Good Neighbor Authority grant aims to fund partnerships with states, counties, and tribes for the planning and implementation of restoration projects on forest, rangeland, and watershed areas, with a focus on treating diseased trees, reducing hazardous fuels, and improving overall ecosystem health, including wildlife habitats.

The purpose of this program is to increase representation of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people in science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) fields by increasing visibility and awareness of lesser-known STEM applied public health occupational and student opportunities as well as the benefits of these opportunities. Sanitation and engineering fields are often overlooked as applied public health STEM fields even though their work is the foundation of public health through providing and maintaining sanitary facilities and environments for homes and health care facilities. For example, the primary STEM occupational opportunities within the OEHE include civil and environmental (sanitation) engineering, general (health facility) engineering, and environmental health (sanitarian) professions (herein after collectively referred to as sanitation and engineering).The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) is identified as a single (sole) source for this cooperative agreement. The AISES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity and leader in STEM opportunity in Indian Country with both a membership base and Board of Directors that is 100 percent American Indian. Its current membership is over 7,000 individual student and professional members, 248 pre-college chapters, 199 college chapters, 20 professional chapters, and 3 Tribal chapters.

The US Geological Survey is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research in co-production of knowledge about Pacific salmon populations and habitats in the Koyukuk, Nowitna Innoko National Wildlife Refuges and Gana-AYoo managed freshwaters.

The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), with other NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications from National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Centers with existing community outreach and collaborations with American Indian and Alaska Native populations for research on improving cancer outcomes. This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. The NOFO is expected to be published in Summer 2024 with an expected application due date in Summer 2024. This NOFO will utilize the U01 activity code. Details of the planned NOFO are provided below.

The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Alaska Aquatic Resources Program protects and restores riparian and wetland areas, aquatic habitats, and water resources to provide functioning ecosystems for a combination of balanced and diverse uses including fish and wildlife, and for the long-term needs of future generations. Policy guidance for the Program ensures that public land management based on multiple use and sustained yield provides healthy and productive riparian, wetland, and aquatic habitat, achieves land health standards, and considers society’s long-term needs for healthy watersheds. The issues the Program addresses are diverse and include restoration, habitat fragmentation and degradation, drought resiliency, water availability, and aquatic invasive species. Program staff provide professional expertise and policy guidance to BLM managers, Federal, State, Tribal, and local governments, and non-governmental partners on these issues, and implement the best management practices to minimize or avoid impacts to water resources, riparian and wetland areas, and aquatic habitats on public lands. This program supports projects funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Section 40804 (b) Ecosystem Restoration. This program also supports projects funded through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), Sections 50221 Resilience, 50222 Ecosystems Restoration and 50303 DOI.

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Head Start (OHS) announces the availability of approximately $102 million to be competitively awarded for the purpose of expanding access to high-quality, comprehensive services to low-income infants, toddlers, and their families through Early Head Start-Child Care (EHS-CC) Partnerships, or through the expansion of Head Start services and/or Early Head Start services. The objectives of this project fall under INRMP Goal 2: Manage JBER natural resources under the guidelines and principles of adaptive ecosystem management, which aim to maintain functional ecosystems and natural diversity including sustainable populations, native species, and ecological communities and Objective 2.1: Inventory and monitor JBERs natural resources, including soil, water, wetlands, flora, and fauna, to provide baseline information on ecosystem integrity and health, status of renewable resources, and status of threatened or sensitive species or communities. This NOFO has been modified to change the application due date, as a result of changes to the Grants.gov maintenance schedule.The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Administration for Native Americans (ANA) announces the availability of Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 funds for community-based projects for the Social and Economic Development Strategies-Alaska (SEDS-AK) program.SEDS-AK is designed to provide targeted support for Village-specific projects to improve and enhance the core capacity of Alaska Native Village governments, who are central to fulfilling social and economic self-sufficiency in Alaska. This program promotes economic and social self-sufficiency for Alaska Natives and is intended to respond to the unique governmental structures and needs in Alaska. The SEDS-AK supports the principle that social and economic development is interrelated and essential for the growth of thriving Native communities. ANA is interested in supporting community-driven projects that build and strengthen core governmental capacity in the areas of administration and project management at the Alaska Native Village level.
